Apple's Streaming Service Is Here, But What's Next? Gene Munster Reveals
According to recent reports, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is planning to launch its own streaming service in collaboration with major U.S. broadcasters. However, that might not be all that Apple is up to.
Piper Jaffray Senior Research Analyst Gene Munster was on CNBC Wednesday to discuss the next possible moves from Apple.
Impact Of The Apple TV
"When we think about the actual TV, [...] we have been dead wrong in terms of the timing and when this is coming, and we still believe that this is something that's in the works," Munster said.
"Our latest expectation is that this is going to be out sometime next year. So, think of 2017 as the first full-year, and we think in that year they will add – the TV will add – somewhere between 5 and 10 percent to their overall revenue.
"And so it is something that's able to move the needle, and it hasn't an impact to their price target yet, because it is not in our model. But eventually, we think that will be in the model and will impact the price target."
The Next Evolution Of Computing
Munster continued, "We have been doing more work on this augmented reality and some other things that Apple is working on longer-term. Think of this as Google Glass that you'd actually want to use and you can get real value out of it.
"It wouldn't have kind of the ‘geek creep ' kind of factor that Google Glass had, but based on our work [...] they have some engineers that are intensely focused on this problem, and this could be the next evolution of computing," Munster concluded.
