December was a highly volatile month for the equity market as the Dow ended the year lower by 2.2 percent while the S&P 500 shed 0.7 percent. This marked the worst year for the 2 indexes since 2008.
Investors continue to seek out wisdom, or "alpha", from Wall Street, media sources, and other forms of publications. However, a growing trend is to seek out information from crowd-sourced communities. One such platform is Vetr, a crowd-sourced stock ratings platform.
Serhiy Banashko, a member of the Vetr crowd, achieved a 22.25 percent return during the month of December. The crowd member achieved a 66.8 percent return on Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ: ENPH), a seller of microinverter systems for the solar photovaoltaic industry.
The crowd member also recorded a 10.5 percent gain on Horizon Pharma PLC (NASDAQ: HZNP). Meanwhile, the crowd member's worst performing stock was Lumber Liquidators Holdings Inc (NYSE: LL) which saw a 7.6 percent loss.
As such, Serhiy Banashko's stock picks offered the best overall return for December out of all members of the crowd.
In total, Serhiy Banashko's success rate is 75 percent for the month of December. In addition, the crowd member's average one-year return is 11.5 percent.
