Hundreds Of Companies Bid To Build Trump's Security Wall
General Dynamics Corporation (NYSE: GD) supplies the U.S. armed forces with submarines and tanks, and now the company wants to win the contract to build a wall on the southern border with Mexico.
Others In The Mix
But General Dynamics needs to beat out proposals from hundreds of companies also vying to win the contract to fulfill President Donald Trump's campaign pledge. According to a Bloomberg report, more than 350 companies have expressed interest in working on the wall project.
Companies from across the world responded to the government's pre-solicitation notice, including Switzerland's cement giant Lafargeholcim Ltd (ADR) (OTC: HCMLY) and British-based Balfour Beatty. Ironic or not, a Mexico-based company called Cemex SAB de CV (ADR) (NYSE: CX) placed itself in the mix and is willing to provide supplies.

Cementing The Deal: As Early As Monday
The U.S. government could present a formal request as early as Monday "for the design and build of several prototype wall structures." Potential bidders will also need to submit a prototype by March 10 and then submit pricing two weeks later.
Awards are expected to be handed out to companies by mid-April.
Trump himself estimated the cost for the entire project will be $8 to $12 billion, but congressional Republicans estimate the project in the $12 to $15 billion.
However, analysts at Bernstein believe the true cost will ultimately be as high as $25 billion.
