Tesla's Cybertruck, New Model 3 To Steal Detroit Auto Show Next Week? Analyst Says It Could Be 'Perfect Forum'

As Tesla, Inc.’s (NASDAQ:TSLA) Cybertruck launch timeline draws close, an uber-bullish investor hinted at the possibility of the electric pickup truck making its appearance at the Detroit Show scheduled to be held at Huntington Place in Detroit from Sept. 13-24.

What Happened: Tesla is attending the show after a long gap. A press release from the organizers listed Tesla as one of the brands showing off its electric vehicles on the new “Powering Michigan EV Experience” indoor track ride-along activation.

BMW AG (OTC:BMWYY), General Motors Corp.’s (NYSE:GM)’ Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC, Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F), and Volkswagen AG (OTC:VWAGY) are among the others showing off the EV lineups.

“Outside of Huntington Place, Ford and Tesla will offer street course ride-and-drives,” the release said. “There, show visitors will get a chance to get behind the wheel and take products for a spin along the Detroit riverfront over portions of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix downtown race circuit.”

Cybertruck To Get Sneak-Peek? Tesla investor and Future Fund’s Managing Partner Gary Black raised the possibility of Tesla showcasing and allowing test drives of the Cybertuck.

“I can’t see why $TSLA wouldn't bring the Cybertruck and new Model 3 Refresh to the Detroit auto show next week,” he said tagging Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Investor Relations Head Martin Viecha.

“It's the perfect forum for unveiling new products and stimulating interest,” the fund manager said. “They can still give rides in S, X, or Y but rides in a Cybertruck would be quite special and offer huge social media exposure,” he added.

The Cybertruck test models have been spotted quite frequently by Tesla fans on social media, whipping up the frenzy. The company officially confirmed in mid-July the first Cybertruck has rolled off the production line.

Black is very bullish on the Cybertuck. Apart from augmenting Tesla’s volume, the fund manager expects the vehicle to give the rest of the company’s EVs a volume boost through the “halo effect.”

In premarket trading on Friday, Tesla shares fell 0.82% to $249.42, according to Benzinga Pro data.
