Acuthan Believes Recessions Will Be More Frequent This Decade
In an article on the CNBC, Lakshman Acuthan, managing director of Economic Cycle Research Institute, said that the US will see recessions recurrently during this decade. He mentioned, "Half of the slowdowns that you see in our history turn into recessions, roughly." "The problem is that because of lower trend growth and higher volatility we're going to have more frequent recessions in this decade," he added.
Lakshman’s statement came just after the employment report released by the government reflected higher-than-expected attrition in June. He pointed out that "forward" economic indicators such as profit growth are not as bad as expected in a recession.
However, "You don't have to wait for all the bad things that occur to be solved before there is a recovery. If you do, you're going to be waiting a long time, and you're going to miss what happened last year," Lakshman said.
