Blackstone: Capital Difficult To Raise
Bloomberg is reporting that the president of Blackstone Group LP (NYSE: BX), Tony James, believes that there simply is not enough capital to go around in today's market to fund all of the opportunities he is seeing.
“In 2005 and 2006, if you put it out well, you could raise as much as you could invest,” James, 59, said today at the Bloomberg Dealmakers Summit in New York. “That's no longer the case.”
Much of this has to do with banks not being able to put together the sizable capital pools that were popular pre-2007 in leveraged buyout (LBOs).
Mr. James believes that, “The economics are not going to be attractive for a few years.”
