Twitter Scam Hijacks Politician Accounts
Twitter has become a very successful and popular social networking site that is utilized by everyone from teenagers to politicians.
Celebrities post brief "tweets" allowing their followers to remain connected to their lives. These tweets are used to announce everything from weekend plans to essential news.
However, as with any successful website with password protected accounts, they are frequently subject to hijacking. British politicians are among the recent victims of such hijacking on Twitter accounts.
These hijackers sent out sexual messages to the friends and followers of these politicians. Ed Miliband, British energy minister, was one of the hijacked accounts.
Anyone following Ed, as well as many others, were sent sexually explicit messages without the owner's knowledge or consent. Many of the victims of the hijacking have sent out apology tweets explaining that their account was hijacked.
As Twitter continues to grow and expand, it is likely that these reports will become more frequent.
