The ABC President said that the new anchor team for the immensely popular program “Good Morning America” would take charge on Monday December 14.
Stephanopoulos will anchor the broadcast with Robin Roberts. George replaces Diane Sawyer who has had a very successful tenure as the anchor of the same program for no less than eleven years. On the other hand, George Robert Stephanopoulos is presently the Chief Political Correspondent of ABC News. He is also the host of the Sunday morning news show on the same channel, This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
George has had quite a successful career in ABC News. He co-hosted ABC News special live coverage of political events along with Charles Gibson and Diane Sawyer. He has launched a blog on ABC.com. It is named "George's Bottom Line".
George, before joining ABC News, was a senior political adviser to the 1992 U.S. presidential campaign of Bill Clinton. He became Clinton's communications director later on. He became a political analyst after leaving the White House at the end of Bill Clinton’s tenure as the President of the United States of America.
George Stephanopoulos is also responsible for the inspiration behind the creation of the character of Henry Burton in Primary Colors written by Joe Klein in 1996. The novel was adapted later on for a motion picture in 1998. The character of Henry Burton was characterized by Adrian Lester.
George Stephanopoulos accepted the proposal offered by ABC News president to replace Diane Sawyer as the host of “Good Morning America”. However, he will continue to host “This Week” along with his association with “Good Morning America” for the time being.
