Will Cameron Beat His Titanic Record? (NWS, IMAX)
James Cameron's stature grows day by day as his latest offering, Avatar, continues to redefine box office records. The movie has remained number one in the North American box office for the fourth continuous week. Avatar is already the second highest grossing film of all time, at $1.3 billion, behind only Cameron’s previous blockbuster – Titanic, which earned $1.8 billion globally.
Titanic remained number one for 15 consecutive weeks and the bets are on that the charm of the Na’vi will sink the Titanic’s long held numero-uno position, doing good to the likes of IMAX Corporation (NASDAQ: IMAX) and owners 20th Century Fox (NYSE: NWS).
20th Century Fox distribution executive, Bert Livingston, speaking to the New York Times, stated that ‘I believe that anything is possible with this picture’. Cameron can rest assured that he will be the winner regardless of which of his creations comes out at the top.
