US Companies' Swift Reaction To Haiti Disaster
US companies have reacted quickly to the devastation in Haiti with plans to donate money and resources to the the island nation's relief effort.
The following are just some of the recently announced aid packages that US companies are donating:
UPS (NYSE: UPS) is offering $500,000 in cash and $500,000 in services through The UPS Foundation, the company's charitable unit. The services will be in the form of free shipments of supplies to Haiti.
FedEx (NYSE: FDX) will also be working with relief agencies to deliver much needed supplies to Haiti.
Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) will immediately provide bottled water and other Coc-Cola broducts through its bottler in the nearby Dominican Republic. The company has also pledged to donate $1 million to the American Red Cross.
Lowe's (NYSE: LOW) will contribute $1 million to the Red Cross relief efforts and will ask customers to donate to the fund.
Walmart (NYSE: WMT) also plans to donate $600,000 to the Red Cross, along with prepackaged food kits valued at $100,000. The company is also launching a website where Walmart employees and the public can make donations.
Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) is planning to send its PUR Purifier of Water devices to Haiti so that Haitians will have access to clean water.
MasterCard (NYSE: MA) will allow its cardholders to transfer their reward points to a cash donation to the Canadian Red Cross.
