Wyclef Jean In The Eye Of Yele Haiti Storm
Musician Wyclef Jean vehemently denied charges of misappropriating funds from his charity, Yele Haiti, and reiterated his commitment to Haiti relief efforts. TheSmokingGun had claimed that the rap star was using funds collected by Yele Haiti to fund his production company and live performances. A 2006 tax filing shown on the site reveals that a third of the fund’s revenue went to such expenses.
Approximately $380,000 has been paid out to a production company and recording studio co-owned by Jean and his fellow Yele board member Jerry Duplessis. Jean pointed out that such operating expenses were both commonplace and necessary in charitable organizations. He added that he had put in a million dollars of his own money for relief work in Haiti.
