Apple Pulls The Plug On iTunes Movie Trailers After 2 Decades Because Everyone Binges First On YouTube

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has bid farewell to its long-standing iTunes Movie Trailers app and website, redirecting users to its TV platform.

What Happened: For over two decades, the iTunes Movie Trailers app and website was a hub for movie enthusiasts and cinephiles seeking a sneak peek into upcoming films.

However, the digital landscape has evolved significantly since its inception in the late 1990s, and Apple’s decision to retire this service reflects those changes.

The iTunes Movie Trailers app had deteriorated with minimal updates, with the recent 17th update being more of a curtain call than an enhancement.

Instead of offering an array of movie trailers and exclusive previews, it now directs users to the Apple TV app, reported AppleInsider.

The online iTunes Movie Trailers site also followed a similar fate. The website now redirects users to tv.apple.com.

Why It’s Important: In its prime, iTunes Movie Trailers showcased the superiority of Apple’s QuickTime video player, attracting film companies eager to feature their trailers on the platform.

However, with the expansion of trailers on platforms like Alphabet Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) YouTube, the app and site gradually became dated.
