'The Sims 5' Preview: Better Visuals, Socialization, Hair Customization; No Release Date Yet

During the Behind the Sims stream, fans got a glimpse of the upcoming sequel to Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) "The Sims 4," known as "Project Rene" or "The Sims 5."

According to Kotaku, the brief stream showcased early-stage developments, including improvements in lighting, Sim animations, and hairstyles.

One major point of discussion among players has been the representation of hairstyles, particularly natural curls and Black styles, in "The Sims 4." Although the latest stream did not delve into the developer's specific plans to rectify these past mistakes, it did showcase a potential hair customization feature that could grant players greater control over the subject.

The stream also highlighted enhancements in lighting for lots, allowing players to set the mood for their stories.

Changes to Sims' visual presentation and communication were teased, demonstrating how Sims would adopt different postures and interaction styles based on their moods.

Moreover, "Project Rene" producer Jill suggested that the next title of the popular franchise aims to reduce visual clutter and simplify the communication system. "Socialization is fundamental to the experience in The Sims. But you gotta admit, sometimes there’s a lot to follow," the producer said.

During the Behind the Sims stream, Maxis Studios provided a preliminary look at the behaviors and routines of townie Sims in "The Sims 5," hinting at a more purposeful approach for non-playable characters.

The presentation also addressed the comically awkward navigation of Sims within their homes, with improvements expected in "The Sims 5."

Fans eagerly awaiting the sequel will need to exercise patience, as the game's release is not imminent. The development team hinted that the highly anticipated installment of the beloved life simulation game is still a while away.
