Final Fantasy Producer Naoki Yoshida On Consoles: 'I Wish There Was Only One'

Naoki Yoshida, the producer of Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. (OTC: SQNX) Final Fantasy 16 and director of Final Fantasy 14, said he wished there was only one console for gamers to play on.

"Game platforms... I probably shouldn't say this, but I wish there was only one," Yoshida said during an interview with a Taiwanese YouTube channel, as per IGN.

And he added: "It would be better for both the developers and the players."

His latest game, Final Fantasy 16, is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, while 2010's Final Fantasy 14 was initially a PlayStation console exclusive and has now been announced for Xbox Series X and S.

The director has previously shown a lack of tact for the idea that all players should have access to all games, as evident from his advice to those anticipating Final Fantasy 16: Yoshida suggested that they should purchase a PS5 instead of waiting for a PC release.

Final Fantasy 16, which was released on June 22, sold 3 million digital copies and was the top-selling game overall during its launch week.

It's worth noting that Square Enix's title was banned in Saudi Arabia, due to "the publisher's unwillingness to make the necessary modifications," as the country's Public Authority for Media said via Twitter.
