It's not a secret that Twitter is a powerful tool for investors. Although a lot of big investors have launched accounts, not all accounts hold equal value. We have compiled a list of some of the best and worst Tweeters in the industry.

  • Carl Icahn

    Carl Icahn

    Activist investor Carl Icahn built a reputation as a corporate raider in the 1980s with the takeover and asset stripping of TWA.

    Since creating his twitter account, Icahn only has made just five comments, most notably about Dell and his acquisition interest. Icahn’s first tweet read: “Twitter is great. I like it almost as much as I like Dell.”

  • George Soros

    George Soros

    Few 82 year olds have twitter accounts, so you have to give George Soros credit for at least trying. With ten tweets over about ten months, the hedge fund manager has been able to obtain nearly 25,000 followers.

    Soros gained most notoriety when he made over one billion dollars by shorting the Great Britain Pound when the government was forced to pull it off the market. In addition to currency investing, George Soros has made a name as a human rights activist, donating more than eight billion.

  • Warren Buffet

    Warren Buffet

    Worst of all is legendary investor Warren Buffett. The mastermind of the Berkshire Hathaway fund is the fourth richest person in the world with a 53 billion dollar fortune.

    Since launching his twitter account at the beginning of May, Buffett has accumulated 520,000 followers. His tweets consist of a shout out to Hillary Clinton and his famous first comment: “Warren is in the house.”

  • Marc Cuban

    Marc Cuban

    Marc Cuban piled onto his reputation as an American businessman by buying the Dallas Mavericks and appearing on the T.V. show Sharktank.

    With 1.76 million followers, Cuban has tweeted over 6,000 times. He tweets several times a day about topics ranging from sports to his personal life to business. Cuban is also active responding to his followers and retweeting.

  • Keith McCullough

    Keith McCullough

    Keith McCullough is the CEO of Hedgeye Risk Management, a firm that doesn’t actually manage money, but advises others on what to do after building up a reputation as a hedge fund manager.

    Keith is arguably the most active investor on Twitter. At three o’clock he hosts a show on the social media site, answering people’s questions about different securities. McCullough has a whopping 81,000 tweets with 27,000 followers.

  • Phil Pearlman

    Phil Pearlman

    As the executive editor for StockTwits, one should expect Phil Pearlman to be a top tweeter! Along with his role at the social media company, Pearlman invests in early stage web companies.

    With almost 22,000 tweets, Pearlman has over 16,000 followers. A lot of these comments are forwarded from his StockTwits account.
