Shaq Goes From Custom Cybertruck To Custom Lucid Air: Here's What He Changed On His New EV

NBA Hall of Famer and analyst Shaquille O'Neal has added a custom Lucid Air from Lucid Group (NASDAQ:LCID) to the list of vehicles he owns, which includes several Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) Cybertruck electric pickup trucks.

What Happened: O'Neal, also known as Shaq, is a fan of owning multiple vehicles, especially when he likes them so much.

The 7'1" former NBA star often needs to have his vehicles customized to make them more comfortable for his larger than life frame. That's what happened with one of his newest vehicles, a Lucid Air.

Shaq had a four-door Lucid Air turned into a two-door coupe to better fit inside, as reported by InsideEVs. The customization job was done by West Coast Customs, a body shop made famous on the former MTV show "Pimp My Ride." The shop often works with celebrities and global brands on custom jobs.

Images shared on Instagram show the custom Lucid Air has larger doors than the retail model along with other modifications. As with many Shaq vehicles, modifications often include new custom tires. The front of the car also features the word "Diesel," a reference to Shaq's DJ Diesel music personality, replacing the word "Lucid."

Why It's Important: Shaq owns at least two Cybertrucks, which feature several customizations, but none as big a job needed to switch the Lucid Air from a four-door to a two-door.

One of the Cybertruck custom jobs caught the attention of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who responded to a photo of it on social media platform X.

Shaq also famously bought two Lamborghini Gallardos previously for $600,000 and had them spliced together to make a larger version of the vehicle, as reported by Jalopnik.

While Shaq wanted a two-door electric coupe for himself, Lucid will likely not be making a similar model for the public. Many automotive companies are moving towards SUVs, including three-row SUVs due to customer demand.

Lucid opened orders for the Lucid Gravity SUV on Nov. 7, it's second vehicle launch.

The company delivered 7,124 vehicles through the first three quarters of the year, with guidance of 9,000 vehicle deliveries in 2024.

Having Shaq as one of their customers could help Lucid's brand awareness and provide some free marketing along the way. The fact that Shaq owns vehicles from both Tesla and Lucid could also amplify the rivalry between the two electric vehicle companies if anyone ever asks the NBA Hall of Famer which model and company he prefers.
