Warren Buffett's Real Estate Brokerage, Compass Discuss Deal: Report
Warren Buffett's real-estate brokerage business, HomeServices of America, is considering a deal with Compass.
What Happened: According to The Wall Street Journal, Compass — the biggest U.S. brokerage by volume in 2023 — offered to buy HomeServices of America for an unknown price.
HomeServices of America is owned by Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK) (NYSE:BRK). It had about 820 brokerage offices and 270 franchisees in 2024.
It also owns Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices and Real Living.
Why It Matters: The home-buying sector is consolidating.
Earlier this week, Rocket Companies Inc. (NYSE:RKT) announced it will acquire Redfin Corp. (NASDAQ:RDFN) in a $1.75 billion deal.
Analysts anticipate the deal will increase competition between Zillow Group Inc. (NASDAQ:ZG) (NASDAQ:Z) and Rocket Companies, now bolstered by Redfin’s assets and capabilities.
