Geithner To Discuss Thursday’s Plunge With SEC And Heads Of U.S. Exchanges
Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner, will meet with top officials from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and the heads of leading U.S. stock, options and futures exchanges, to discuss last Thursday’s fall.
The officials will brief Geithner on “progress in analyzing the unusual trading activity of last week as well as discuss their plan going forward,” said Andrew Williams, Treasury spokesman. Meanwhile, according to people familiar with the meeting, Mary Shapiro, SEC Chairman, has asked top New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, and other exchange officials to meet with her today to discuss stock exchange risk controls.
