Late Market Roundup (RDS.B, RIMM, MOT)
Shares of Royal Dutch Shell plc (NYSE: RDS.B) fell 0.06% following the purchase of 10,000 Royal Dutch Shell B shares by its director, Simon Henry. He bought the shares at around $27.30 per share for a total of $272,601.
Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Donald Kohn would temporarily remain as Fed’s governor, till his replacement is appointed or September 1, whichever comes earlier. Kohn had earlier announced that he will cease to be in office from June 23. Janet Yellen, San Francisco Fed President, has been nominated to the post by the President Barack Obama. However, the Senate Banking Committee is yet to act on it.
US stocks are trading in a contracted range following the report of a rise in consumer confidence in the economy, despite of the fact that they aren't thronging stores. The consumer sentiment index grew to 75.5, marking the highest level since January 2008 and exceeding the forecast of 74.5. US major indexes were lower at the start of the day, due to unexpected fall in retail sales, which fell 1.2% in May.
BlackBerry maker Research in Motion Ltd (NASDAQ: RIMM) has agreed to pay an undisclosed amount along with continuing royalties to Motorola Inc (NYSE: MOT) to settle a patent dispute. The two companies had locked their horns over a patent litigation related to a key technology found in their smartphones. Shares of RIMM gained 1.3%, while the MOT’s shares rose 2.8%.
