Is Apple Already Taking Action On iPhone Antenna Problem?
According to an article on 9TO5Mac, there are rumors of Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) already taking action to fix the much-discussed iPhone antenna problem.
A reader on Gizmodo has mentioned, “Well, when I got the new phone it was different. It was different hardware. The black [plastic] bezel isn't as black on the new one. I couldn't see the proximity sensor at all on the previous iPhone 4, now I can. The stainless steel band on the new phone is less 'steel-y' and more matte. I've also tried to replicate the signal drop and failure. While I can't say for sure that it is entirely fixed, there is certainly huge improvement. I'm guessing they coated the steel with something.”
A similar report has surfaced on iFixit. After iFixit’s attempt to buy a new phone to check the validity of the claim drew no result, it mentioned, “Apple has so many iPhones out in the field that it’s very hard to get a feel for what’s going on… They may have just switched to their new process at one of their factories, or they may be rolling it out slowly, or this may be an internet myth. The only way to find out is to check a number of units that have just shipped from the factory.”
In the meantime, analyst Toni Sacconaghi of Bernstein & Co has estimated that a product recall on the device would cost AAPL $1.5 billion at this stage.
