HTC Unveils Phone Similar To The Google (GOOG) Nexus One
HTC unveiled a new Android based mobile phone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that has many of the same features as the Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) Nexus One but at a lower price.
HTC's new phone, named Desire, uses the Qualcomm, Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM) one gigahertz Snapdragon chip and a technology called AMOLED, or Active-matrix OLED, that presents a higher quality screen than a PC's monitor.
HTC also manufactured the Nexus One for Google. Google claims it is not interested in the hardware business and that it just wants a broad platform for the Android operating system.
HTC's CEO, Peter Chou, says that the Desire and Nexus One have very different sales channels and that HTC's Desire won't cause problems with the HTC-Google relationship.
