Lean Hogs Sharply Lower

Thursday's USDA hog slaughter was 424,000 head versus a year ago at 407,000 head.

Lean hogs traded sharply lower Thursday and late in the day selling accelerated the losses. October Lean Hogs were trading at 64.27, down 2.50 and December Lean Hogs were trading at 60.52, down 2.30. Market chatter about weak cash prices and abundant U.S. supplies of pork was making the rounds. August hogs traded at 78.02, down 2.20.
