Thursday's USDA cattle slaughter was 109,000 head versus a year ago at 115,000 head.

Live cattle futures traded firm for most of the trading session. October Live Cattle was trading at 148.77, up 0.60 and December Live Cattle was trading at 150.12, up 0.37. Market chatter about firm cash prices was making the rounds.
