Paychex CEO: Job Growth Encouraged By These 2 Things

Share:

Martin Mucci, Paychex, Inc. (NASDAQ: PAYX) CEO and president, was recently on CNBC to share his insight on Paychex's small-business hot zones.

"This is the first time since April of 2014 that we saw positive turnaround," Mucci said.

"So, when you look at those numbers and you continue to see the central states having the strongest small-employment growth. So, we think it’s a nice start to 2015."

Why Hasn’t NFIB Responded To Improvements In The Economy?

"Well NFIB small business index is pretty strong," Mucci replied. "We saw that in December and January, and you see the consumer confidence is at an all-time high, I think, in about seven years. So, I do think that the consumer confidence and the small business NFIB index is being positive help."

He continued, "Also, housing stats are up really for the first time in quite a few years, and I think all that is bringing construction jobs back and the energy is still helping."

"You saw a little bit of a drop in Houston, but the central states around energy are still positive," Mucci stated regarding job growth.

Why Is Indiana Doing So Well?

Mucci cautioned that Indiana's status is fairly young, and that as far as why it is doing well, the true reasons are not all that clear.

"Well, that’s hard to say. Right now that’s kind of one month thing," Mucci said.

"Where we have seen most of the states -- it's Washington state, it's Texas with energy -- have still been consistently strong. Indiana kind of popped up for the first time. So, we are really not sure what’s driving that, although you do see some entertainment jobs and some other things around housing bumping that may be something to do with Indiana."
