Meet Alibaba And Wal-Mart's New Digital Partner: Tango

Share:

Messaging service Tango announced Tuesday that it has partnered with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT) and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE: BABA) to launch Tango Shop, which will allow the users to make in-app purchases from these two companies.

Tango Co-Founder and CTO Eric Setton was on CNBC to talk about this partnership and what interested Alibaba to go ahead with such partnership.

The Tango Shop

“Messaging services are already turning out to be the new gateway into the mobile Internet,” Setton said. “This is where people are spending their time and we thought it really made sense for people to learn about new products that they can discover and buy through their friends and family members.”

“And that’s what we did with Tango Shop that we are launching today in partnership with Wal-Mart and Alibaba’s AliExpress service."

The Alibaba Tie-Up

On what interested Alibaba to tie up with the company, Setton said, “I think that one of the things that’s striking about startups of the valley is really their pace and how quickly we can innovate and how quickly we can bring forward to market things that were never done before. The Tango Shop that we worked together with them is the first of its kind.”

“It’s the first time that a messaging app couples a messaging service inside of just one app and offers this to its members and I think that’s one of the things that Alibaba is excited in trying out with us,” Setton concluded.
