LinkedIn CEO Tells CNBC Q1 Exceeded Its Own Expectations

Share:

LinkedIn Corp (NYSE: LNKD)'s CEO Jeff Weiner was a guest on CNBC early Friday to discuss the company's strong quarterly performance.

Weiner said LinkedIn's performance has been "stronger than expected" relative to its own expectations. He added some of the major investments that were made in the bottom of last year, such as an improved app, also exceeded management's own expectation.

"We have seen accelerating growth in terms of consumer engagement and by virtue of the way the ecosystem works, that has also had a change to lift a few of our business lines," he said.

Jim Cramer jumped in and quoted LinkedIn's CEO who said in February during a conference call with investors that the company is seeing "continued pressure" across its EMEA (Asia, Middle East and Africa) segment and the Asia-Pacific segment.

"There were things in this conference call which basically said you have secular decline," Cramer said. "Are you saying it wasn't secular and a one-off?"

Wiener answered that LinkedIn saw "strong performances" in the AMEA (Asia, Middle East and Africa) region across all business lines. He attributed the gains towards "execution" and not a secular trend and saw stronger growth coming from the company's sponsored content.
