Will The Government Get Its Money Back From AIG (AIG)?

Share:

Will the government every regain its $182 billion dollar investment in AIG (AIG)? AIG announced its plans today to repay the government. AIG has been slowly selling off its most valuable assets in order to raise funds.

The government recently received 1.66 billion shares of AIG common stock in exchange for its $49.1 billion investment. Shares are valued at about $29.67 apiece. This should bring the government a profit of nearly $16 billion dollars. It still remains to be seen whether or not the government will receive the value for its investment that it is seeking.
