Vernon Telephone Cooperative Boosts Infrastructure with Extreme Networks
Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXTR) today announced that its customer, Wisconsin-based Vernon Telephone Cooperative, has been awarded the TelcoTV 2010 Vision Award for Service Provider Innovation. Vernon Telephone Cooperative was honored for its Residential Triple Play and Business Ethernet Services.
As a total communications provider for its subscribers, Vernon Telephone Cooperative delivers telephone, digital cable and high-speed Internet services to business and residential customers in Western Wisconsin. Vernon Telephone chose Extreme Networks' Ethernet solution because it is well suited to transport residential triple play, business Ethernet, mobile backhaul and wholesale Ethernet services. The network is also highly flexible and scalable supporting the service provider's future growth.
Extreme Networks Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS) provides fault tolerance, enabling loop-free operation and ring recovery and delivering continuous operation for Vernon Telephone Cooperative's customers, which means that even if a fiber ring is cut, traffic still gets through, ensuring maximum uptime and uninterrupted service.
"In rural southwestern Wisconsin, we face the risk of fiber cuts because of ever-changing terrain due to flooding, excavations and farming mishaps," said Rod Olson, general manager of Vernon Telephone Cooperative. "With Extreme Networks EAPS, we're assured our customers won't face service interruptions, and failover happens so fast that our customers can't even tell a fiber was cut. We're honored to receive the award from TelcoTV 2010 and happy to share the spotlight with Extreme Networks."
