Tweet Longer With Deck.ly
If you've been itching to tweet a little longer than Twitter's 140 character limit, Tweetdeck has the answer: Deck.ly.
Iain Dodsworth, the founder and CEO of Tweetdeck, is hyping the new feature, which he says fans have been very vocal about in their demands.
Built for Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) Chrome, Tweetdeck will allow users to read the longer posts within the app starting Monday. Facebook support is also in the works.
What if you're using another browser, or have yet to download Tweetdeck for Chrome? You'll still get the tweets, but they'll be shorter and offer Deck.ly links to the full messages.
Interestingly, FT tech hub reports that since Tweetdeck's posts are store on the company's servers, they can be searchable. In the long term, Dodsworth hopes to build a Deck.ly site that shows the most popular posts, as well as the various trends among them.
“From day one [of Tweetdeck], it was one of the things almost everyone was screaming about,” Dodsworth said. “I've been very protective of the fact that [140 characters] is a platform limitation of the services we sit on top of and we have to have an element of respect for that. Going around that core tenet of Twitter could be a sensitive move. We don't know how they feel about it. But we are tailoring to an audience that wants functionality the general user of Twitter doesn't care about.”
