President Obama Comments Before Meeting With Governors

Share:

Speaking this morning before meeting with governors, President Obama reiterated the importance of coming together.

“We needed a moment when all of us, Democrats and Republicans” came together, Obama said. “In the short-term, we came together here in Washington at the end of last year and enacted tax cuts that are already making Americans' paychecks bigger.

“I'm proud that Democrats and Republicans worked together to get it done.”

In the long-term, however, Obama said that we need to address the housing bubble and cut not only discretionary spending (which makes up just 12% of total spending) but also cut the spending of health care, the military, and other departments.
