Shares of Chubb Corp (NYSE: CB) gained about 0.6% after the company reported upbeat Q1 earnings. CB reported its Q1 net income at $509 million, or $1.70 per share, up from $464 million, or $1.39 per share, in the year-earlier period. Excluding investment gains and losses and other one-time costs, CB's earnings came in at $1.35 per share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.09 per share. The company's revenue surged to $2.85 billion from $2.78 billion. The company's operating costs and expenses increased to $904 million from $862 million.
