Nobody wants to pay taxes, but you have to, eventually.

Otherwise, the IRS will catch up with you, and you'll be forced to pay significantly more than you owe, or in many cases, get sent to jail.

Let's take a look at 10 tax evaders who thought they were smarter than the long arm of the law, only to get roped in by that same arm.

Dennis Kozlowski

The former CEO of Tyco (NYSE: TYC) was ordered to repay $21.2 million in back New York taxes, as he evaded paying taxes on art, bonuses and other collectibles. Kozlowski is currently serving time behind bars.

Steve Rubell

Rubell, the former head of popular 1970's disco club Studio 54 was convicted of not paying taxes on $2.5 million in earnings, He was fined and received a 42 month jail term.

Joe Francis

Francis, the creator of the popular, yet controversial ‘Girls Gone Wild' brand, was found guilty of deducting over $20 million in fraudulent deductions on his corporate tax returns. Francis paid a fine of $250,000, and also served time in jail.
