Internet Explorer 9 The Most ‘Green' Browser, Microsoft Claims

Share:

Microsoft is claiming its recently released Internet Explorer 9 is the most energy-efficient browser in the market today as it requires the least amount of power to run.

Microsoft conducted a series of tests, pitting its IE9 against the likes of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Opera. While all the browsers with the exception of Opera use almost identical power when idle, IE9 is considerably more efficient when actually running.

In the above graph, Microsoft loaded up a popular news site on the browsers and checked which consumed the most power—and IE9 scraped through as the most efficient.

"The more efficiently a browser uses power the longer the battery will last in a mobile device, the lower the electricity costs, and the smaller the environment impact," Microsoft wrote in a blog post.
