Shares of Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE) gained about 0.9% after the company agreed to sell its Capsugel unit to private equity firm KKR & Co (NYSE: KKR) for around $2.38 billion. As a result of the sale, PFE slightly reduced its revenue projections for this year and next year.

Shares of Discover Financial Services (NYSE: DFS) rose about 0.75% after the company named R. Mark Graf as the company's new chief financial officer (CFO), replacing Roy Guthrie. Graf was most recently an investment advisor with New York-based Aquiline Capital Partners. “Mark's track record of leadership and deep expertise in banking and financial services make him a strong addition to our senior team,” David Nelms, chairman and chief executive officer for Discover said. “As Discover continues to grow and develop our markets, Mark's contributions and perspective will be invaluable.”

Shares of Vodafone Group Plc (NASDAQ: VOD) rose about 0.6% after the company announced its plans to sell its 44% stake in SFR to Vivendi SA for about $11 billion. Vivendi will buy VOD's 44% stake in French mobile operator SFR for 7.95 billion euros ($11 billion).
