Supreme Court Ruling is a "Victory Against an Unwarranted, Selective Attack on Our Industry," says Activision's Bobby Kotick
Activision's (NASDAQ: ATVI) President and CEO, Bobby Kotick, has commented on yesterday's ruling, in which the Supreme Court ruled that California's video game ban to minors is unconstitutional.
“We are pleased with the ruling, which is an important affirmation of First Amendment rights and a victory against an unwarranted, selective attack on our industry,” Kotick said. “Protecting children from age inappropriate content is important and that's why we have an industry-standard ratings system that is clear and unambiguous. We urge parents to take the ratings seriously.”
Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive (NASDAQ: TTWO), also weighed in on the verdict.
“We are pleased with the decision of the Supreme Court, which reaffirms that freedom of artistic expression is protected by our Constitution,” Zelnick said. “For those who create interactive entertainment, as well as the many millions of consumers who are delighted by it, today's decision is a great victory."
John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts' (NASDAQ: ERTS), was equally pleased with yesterday's ruling.
“Everybody wins on this decision – the Court has affirmed the Constitutional rights of game developers; adults keep the right to decide what's appropriate in their houses; and store owners can sell games without fear of criminal prosecution,” Riccitiello said.
