Market Overview

Zings Of The Day September 12, 2011

French banks fell sharply today over fears of an imminent Moody's downgrade. They responded by smoking cigarettes, eating cheese and acting snooty. In other words, it was a typical Monday in France.

J.P. Morgan's (NYSE: JPM) Jamie Dimon said the U.S. should exit Basel III, saying its "blatantly anti-American." I assume stealing money from the U.S. taxpayer is American, Jamie?

McGraw-Hill (NYSE: MHP) will split the company into two, McGraw-Hill Markets and McGraw-Hill Education. Great. So one company can downgrade the U.S. debt, and the other can write about how it downgraded U.S. debt. That's just swell.
