Citi CEO Vikram Pandit: "I'd Be Happy to Talk With Protesters"
According to Bloomberg, Citigroup (NYSE: C) CEO Vikram Pandit told a breakfast group organized by Fortune magazine this morning that he would be happy to talk to the Occupy Wall Street protesters. Obviously, the movement has gotten the attention of the very high profile banker, who has overseen the collapse of Citi's stock price in his role as CEO since 2007.
Pandit said that the protesters sentiments were "completely understandable," and that "Trust has been broken between financial institutions and the citizens of the U.S., and that is Wall Street's job, to reach out to Main Street and rebuild that trust.”
It is unclear if the protesters will take Pandit up on his offer to talk, or if the CEO is even serious, but it does appear there is an offer on the table. “I'd talk about the fact that they should hold Citi and the financial institutions accountable for practicing responsible finance,” Pandit said. “I'd be happy to talk to them any time they want to come up.”
I wonder who has more of a beef with the Citi CEO, shareholders or Occupy Wall Street?
