Bono Covers Bob Dylan Song at Steve Jobs Memorial

Share:

Colleagues, family and friends gathered to remember one of the tech industry's greatest thinkers and innovators.

According to the New York Times (via Business Insider), U2's frontman performed a cover of the Bob Dylan song, “Every Grain of Sand,” at the memorial, while Joan Baez sang “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.”

Larry Ellison, Oracle's (NASDAQ: ORCL) chief exec, spoke fondly about his Hawaiian vacations with Steve Jobs, the New York Times said. Jonathan Ive, Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) Senior VP for Industrial Design, spoke about his time working with Jobs. He noted that while Jobs came up with a lot of great concepts, he also brought up a lot of “dopey ideas” during their brainstorming sessions.

Other Apple execs attended the event, including Tim Cook, Scott Forstall, and Bud Tribble. Former Apple employees, such as Jonathan Rubinstein, Avie Tevanian, Tony Faddell, and Andy Hertzfeld, were also in attendance.

Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Marc Andreessen, John Doerr (a venture capitalist), Marc Benioff (Salesforce.com's (NYSE: CRM) chief exec) and Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin came to pay their respects as well.

The most emotional moment may have come when (according to a memorial attendee who spoke with the New York Times) one of Jobs' daughters read the script from “The Crazy Ones,” an old Apple commercial:

The memorial took place at Stanford University Sunday night.
