Associated Press Twitter Account Hacks the Market

At approximately 1:08PM EST Tuesday, a tweet from the Associated Press' official twitter account came out stating that the White House had been the target of a bombing and that President Obama had been injured.

S&P futures plummeted 16 points while the Dow Jones spiked downwards, dropping as much as 166 points over the course of a few seconds.

Since then, markets have recovered to their pre-release levels.

Following the tweet, Twitter promptly shut down the Associated Press' twitter account, and seconds later a tweet came out saying that the AP account had been hacked.

Twitter users looking to access the Associated Press' account are now met with a blank page saying the account has been suspended.

Minutes later in a press conference, White House spokesman Jay Carney quickly came out with a statement saying that President Obama was fine and that no bombing had occurred at the White House.
