Netflix Usage Obliterates Hulu, HBO Go, Amazon and YouTube

Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) has gotten quite popular over the last few years.

According to AllThingsD, the streaming video giant has been acquiring roughly one-third of all fixed access (wires and pipes) Web traffic, defeating the competition by a significant margin.

Only YouTube, Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) massive video empire, has been able to compete. But aside from the mobile format, where it leads the smartphone and tablet space with 27 percent of downstream traffic, YouTube has been unable to surpass Netflix.

Fixed access YouTube traffic comes in at just 17.11 percent. Hulu, the TV-oriented alternative to Netflix, has earned a meager 2.41 percent of traffic.

Believe it or not, Apple's iTunes, which sells and rents videos, only commands 1.9 percent of traffic. Compared to Amazon Prime (NASDAQ: AMZN) and HBO Go, however, iTunes is pretty darn successful. Prime has only amassed 1.31 percent of traffic, while HBO Go staggers along at just 0.34 percent.

Netflix, which is trading up nearly two percent today, has been performing extremely well with investors and consumers. While the company had endured some losses in 2011 after announcing that it would raise the price of its DVD/streaming video combo, Netflix has now rebounded.

"I've never had a stock quadruple in seven months -- to my recollection, any way -- in my 15 years of managing money," Whitney Tilson, founder and Managing Partner of Kase Capital, told Benzinga last week. "Back in October, I said, 'I think Netflix this decade is going to be like Amazon last decade -- a stock that can just continue to grow and grow with enormous upside optionality.'"

Tilson is one of many investors that believe the company has a strong future. Consumers have also shown their faith in the firm by signing up for the service. During the last quarter, more than two million new subscribers were added in the United States alone.

HBO, Amazon and Hulu can only dream of that level of growth.
