SLIDESHOW: Five Startups Apple Needs To Buy Right Now

Responsible for developing a motion-controlled arm band called MYO, Thalmic Labs is arguably the most promising startup in Canada.

"We had this cool idea that…instead of using a vision-based system like Kinect, we could actually develop an arm band that would read the signals from your muscles," Aaron Grant, co-founder of Thalmic Labs, told Benzinga.

Those signals allowed the device "to determine what you were doing with your arms and hands just based on that," Grant added.

This led to the creation of MYO.

MYO will not begin shipping until December, but the company has posted an incredible (albeit somewhat exaggerated) video of what the team has accomplished.

During an interview with Benzinga, Meta Product Manager Matt Kitchales insisted that his company's innovative glasses are the real deal.

"As soon as you put the glasses on, the skepticism will turn to a huge smirk on your face," he said confidently. "It happens every time."

Designed to be a replacement for the traditional PC interface, Meta glasses are striving to take augmented reality to the next level.

If successful, these glasses could change the future of how consumers work and play.

While Meta hopes to change augmented reality, Oculus VR wants to take virtual reality to new heights.

The company has been quite successful, spawning several inspired (but unrelated) products that take advantage of the Oculus Rift headset.

The device has been praised by developers and tinkerers alike.

In June, Oculus VR raised $16 million in a Series A.

The company also hired John Carmack (the lead programmer of Doom and Quake to be its new Chief Technology Officer.

While already rumored to be on the Mac maker’s shopping list, PrimeSense has yet to confirm or deny that it is moving to Cupertino, California.

As the creator of some of the technology behind Kinect, PrimeSense is one of the more forward-thinking companies in the world.

The firm’s motion-sensing creations allow users to interact with virtual environments without ever having to touch a controller or a display.

Of all the music companies and music startups available, Turntable is arguably the most original.

Spotify may have the largest lineup of on-demand music, but it couldn’t provide Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) with much more than it already has for iTunes Radio.

Turntable, on the other hand, allows users to gather in an online chat room environment and share a limitless array of songs.

Described as a “real-time music listening experience,” Turntable allows user to join or create virtual rooms where people can gather to hear and play music.

Millions of songs are already in Turntable’s library, and users are free to upload tracks that are not already available.

The catch is that the upload is only for listening purposes -- users cannot actually download and keep any of the songs.

Regardless, Turntable provides a cool and clever group listening tool that could be helpful in boosting Apple’s music services.

Not a day has gone by at Apple this month without making news.
