5 Unusual Things You Should Know About Microsoft's New CEO, Satya Nadella

Nadella started his career at Sun Microsystems, but he got the chance to move to Microsoft in 1992.

Unfortunately, he hadn't yet completed his MBA at the University of Chicago. This left him with few options. But he wasn't willing to sacrifice the job or his degree.

"I used to fly to Chicago Friday nights, attend classes Saturdays and come back to Redmond to work during the week," said Nadella, as quoted by Microsoft.com.

When Nadella isn't working, he likes to relax by reading poetry.

"It's like code," he said, as quoted by Microsoft.com.

"You're trying to take something that can be described in many, many sentences and pages of prose, but you can convert it into a couple lines of poetry and you still get the essence, so it's that compression."

Unlike the majority of its competitors, Microsoft has not had a long line of chief executives.

Bill Gates was the first man to lead Microsoft.

Steve Ballmer took over when Gates stepped down to focus on philanthropy.

Now Satya Nadella is getting the chance to lead one of the world's largest corporations.

The 46-year-old CEO has always wanted to build things. But as a child, cricket was his primary passion.

"I think playing cricket taught me more about working in teams and leadership that has stayed with me throughout my career," Nadella said in his new bio on Microsoft.com.

Nadella's busy lifestyle seems to be keeping him away from the world's second-largest social network.

In 2009, Nadella posted at least one message almost every single month.

But as of this writing, he has not published a single tweet since July 11, 2010.
