The Craziest iPhone 6 Rumors And Everything Else About Apple's Next Smartphone

When Apple acquired AuthenTec, everyone assumed that the company wanted to take advantage of the company's fingerprint scanner technology.

They were right.

Now that Apple has inked a deal with GT Advanced, many assume that the Mac maker wants to develop sapphire screens for future devices.

Digital Trends is one of the many publications reporting on this rumor, which has a degree of plausibility thanks to the GT Advanced deal.

By using sapphire instead of glass, the display would be much more durable. Some might even say "indestructible."

Two reports -- one from the Korea Herald and one from Entrepreneur.com -- indicate that the iPhone 6 will take on a bezel-free design.

In fact, the latter report shows this and other unconfirmed iPhone 6 images that were leaked on Twitter by @mornray886.

As you can see, the iPhone's display goes all the way to the edge of the device.

The latest batch of leaked iPhone 6 images are highly reminiscent of some other Apple products that are already on store shelves -- most notably the iPad Air.

iPhone 4, 4S, 5 and 5S users will notice that the body looks smoother (more rounded) than the last four generations of iPhones.

Apple gained a lot of attention in 2011 after rumors claimed that the company would finally release a smartphone with a larger display.

That didn't happen, but consumers didn't seem to care. Siri, Apple’s voice recognition software, proved to be a grand distraction.

Apple released a larger iPhone in 2012, but it only increased the screen size by half an inch.

This fall it seems that Apple may increase the screen size by a more substantial amount.

According to LED Inside, "industry insiders" have revealed that the iPhone 6 will feature a 4.7-inch display.

It should be noted that this report also claims that Apple will release its next iPhone in June -- roughly three to four months ahead of the typical release schedule.

The South China Morning Post claims that Apple will release the iPhone 6 in two sizes.

Not surprisingly, the biggest will come in at 5.5 inches. This will make it a strong competitor to the next Galaxy Note smartphone, which is expected to be released this fall.

Investors know all about the tumultuous relationship between Apple and Samsung, who are both competitors and partners.

But were you aware that Sony -- the Japanese tech giant trying desperately to top the iPhone -- is also an Apple supplier?

According to CNET, Sony currently supplies nearly all of the CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors for the iPhone 5S' rear-mounted camera.

Now the company is reportedly ramping production for more iPhone camera components -- possibly twice as many.

This could mean that Sony will simply take the place of other suppliers for current and future devices, such as the iPhone 6.

But it could also hint that Apple is producing new products that require further assistance from Sony.
