Apple Reportedly Eyeing September Release Date For iPhone 6S

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) may begin selling its latest iPhone model, the iPhone 6S, as soon as September, according to what may be inadvertently leaked information by Vodafone Group Plc (NASDAQ: VOD).

UK-based Mobile News stated in a post that the "new iPhone" will go on sale through Vodafone on September 25. The publication cited an e-mail that was apparently leaked and contained launch information and instructions.

Commenting on Mobile News' report, BGR stated that the September 25 release date is "certainly plausible" and follows similar September releases of the iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and iPhone 6.

BGR continued that it is a "safe bet" that Apple's upcoming new iPhones will "shatter" all previous iPhone sales records. The publication noted a survey it conducted that concluded the number of iPhone users looking to upgrade their device is "larger than it's ever been before."

The iPhone 6S will likely see some "compelling" new software and hardware features, including Force Touch functionality, 2GB of RAM, a more reliable Touch ID sensor, a 12 megapixel camera and perhaps even a "blazing fast" A9 processor.

Finally, a September release date for the upgraded iPhone is consistent with KGI Securities' analyst Ming-Chi Kuo comments. The analyst speculated Apple will introduce a 4.7-inch iPhone 6s and a 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus. The new devices are expected to enter mass-production in mid-August.

Kuo echoed similar projections that the devices will support Force Touch gestures along with an improved Touch ID fingerprint sensor that should "help speed up" Apple Pay transactions.
