Netflix's International Expansion Encounters Setback, Video Service Being Partially Blocked In Indonesia
According to a report by The Times Of India, Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX)'s streaming video service is being partially blocked in Indonesia.
Netflix announced in early 2016 it will launch its service globally.
The Times Of India reported that Indonesia's state-owned telecommunications company, PT Telekomunikasi, it began blocking access to Netflix on Wednesday because the company lacks the necessary permits to operate in the country. The report did note, however, that Netflix's streaming platform is available through other network operators.
PT Telekomunikasi also said in a statement that it also blocked access to Netflix as its video library database contained "inappropriate content such as pornography and depictions of violence that are illegal in Indonesia."
Shares of Netflix were trading higher by more than 2.5 percent at $93.50 late Thursday morning.
