ICYMI: Here's What Happened At Chipotle's Food Safety Meeting

Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE: CMG) ceased all of its operations on Monday for 4 hours as more than 50,000 employees took place in a "virtual" town hall meeting.

The meeting was announced in mid-January and follows a strong of E. coli outbreaks that have been confirmed and linked to Chipotle's restaurants.

Chipotle's new measures to improve food safety includes high resolution testing of food supplies such as cilantro, rejecting an entire batch of supplies (such as tomatoes) if just 1 sample fails to meet the company's standards.

At the restaurant level, Chipotle will only marinate its chicken and steak products at night to reduce cross contamination as all the fresh ingredients have already been prepped and put away. In addition, lemons, limes, jalapenos, onions and avocados will be blanched (submerged in boiling water) to dramatically reduce germs.

Chipotle also committed to a higher frequency of cleaning and sanitizing and will weekly inspections will be performed. Regular inspections by local government health officials will also take place.

Finally, Chipotle committed $10 million to local farmers to help burden the cost of Chipotle's new safety standards.

Shares of Chipotle were trading higher by more than 1 percent on Tuesday morning.
