Dr. Dre TV Show 'Vital Signs' Coming To Apple
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is backing a "top-secret" scripted series starring Dr. Dre, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter.
HR, citing "multiple sources," stated that Dr. Dre will also serve as an executive producer in Apple's original TV series, dubbed "Vital Signs." The report added that Apple is bankrolling the project, which will likely be distributed through Apple Music.
The series is said to be a "dark drama" with "no shortage of violence and sex." The show is also described as a semi-autobiographical chronicle of Dr. Dre with each episode "focusing on a different emotion and how Dre's character deals with it."
Sam Rockweel and MoMcCrae were named as additional cast members.
Dr. Dre already has a close relationship with Apple as he sold his Beats Electronics business to Apple for $3 billion in 2014.
Apple Originals
Apple's entry into the original content space has been speculated by Wall Street analysts and Apple fanatics for the past few years with some experts suggesting Apple should acquire Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) for its original content and global streaming network.
Apple has experimented in the past with exclusive content in the past. The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that Apple streamed a Taylor Swift concert video and a visual version of DJ Kaheld's radio show. However, "Vital Signs" would mark Apple's "first concrete investment for the company in scripted television."
