How Has Apple Stock Historically Traded Following March Product Events?

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) will host reporters and analysts at its own headquarters today for its latest product launch event. Apple is calling the event “Let’s loop you in,” but the company has been characteristically secretive about what exactly it will reveal at the event.

For investors, the market seems to be taking a “wait and see” approach in early trading on Monday. What can investors expect from the stock in the coming week?

This is the fourth time since 2011 that Apple has held a special event in March.

Back on March 2, 2011, Steve Jobs revealed the iPad 2, and the stock traded up only about 0.1 percent in the week that followed.

About a year later on March 7, 2012, Tim Cook released iOS 5.1, the 3rd generation Apple TV and the iPad 3. The stock spiked 11.1 percent in the week that followed.

After 2012, Apple didn’t hold another March special event until March 9 of 2015, when Apple unveiled the Apple Watch, the 4th generation MacBook and iOS 8.2. In the week that followed, the stock dipped 1.7 percent.

Unfortunately for shareholders, the impact that Apple’s March product events have on the stock can be as unpredictable as the events themselves. Investors are hoping that this year’s event will reveal a product that will once again get the market excited about Apple.
