Starz Re-Brands As Acquisition Rumors Continue To Swirl

As rumors about the future of Starz (NASDAQ: STRZA) continue to crop up daily, the network on Monday put a fresh coat paint on its décor. The premium channel will now add the "Starz" name to all of its Encore media channels.

As a result, Encore will now be renamed Starz Encore, and its network of channels, now 14 strong, will get a similar moniker. In addition, Starz's original programming will be added to the Encore channel alongside its traditional film roster to help increase exposure of its series.

Analysts have also pointed out that in addition to those extra viewers serving as a booster for new episodes down the line, Starz's channels need the extra content now that its exclusivity deal with Disney is winding down.

The move, which will also include the new tagline "Starz Obsessable," will debut shortly before the return of the network's biggest hit "Outlander." It's been reported that the "obsessable" verbiage came from social media reaction to the period drama.

Investors know this face-lift comes at an interesting time as recent reports have linked Starz to both Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. (USA) (NYSE: LGF) and CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS) as a acquisition target. The cable network has long been seen as a prime candidate to be taken over by another media giant by nothing has surfaced thus far.
