Report: Oculus Rift CV1's Launch Delayed To August Due To Shortage Of Parts
According to a report by DigiTimes, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ: FB) is facing a shortage of parts for its Oculus Rift CV1 headset.
The Oculus Rift CV1 was scheduled to be released sometime in April. The official Oculus Rift store confirms DigiTimes' report, and shows an estimated ship date of August, 2016.
DigiTimes, citing its "sources," said that there is a shortage of the customized Fresnel lenses. The report added that a "sophisticated" design for the lenses and an "unsmooth manufacturing process" at Facebook's supplier resulted in a low yield rate of Fresnel lenses. In addition, the issue is "unlikely to be solved promptly."
DigiTimes added that the display and chassis of the VR device itself may have to be re-designed.
Despite the report, shares of Facebook were trading higher by 0.51 percent ahead of Thursday's opening bell.
